The Ten Commandments of 'Net' Profits
One of my favorite client's has a problem that I just can't fix. She has
a website that gets her very few sales. I know, I know... That's what I
claim to know all about, right? That's true. But I can't fix her problem
because I cannot do it alone.
My client, just like many business owners and entrepreneurs, views the
Internet through "old-world" eyes. She thinks of her website as a
magazine advertisement, television commercial, or radio ad... Something
you place and then sit back and wait for orders. Obviously what she had
hoped for when her website was launched, turned out to be a bit
disappointing!
Fortunately, my client learns quickly... Over a few scrumptious dinners
(she's a gourmet chef and nutritionist) we discussed several ideas and
strategies, sometimes until the wee hours of the morning. AND... I am
happy to report that she has a new plan to become more involved. You see,
instead of treating her website as an advertisement, she now has the
viewpoint that it's her business! Something that only she has control
over and something that she needs to participate in running.
So what is she going to do? Although some of these were already in place,
my client was still violating many of the "Ten Commandments of 'Net'
Profits"! Now she is going to observe each and every one of these
commandments and never look back to "old-world" ways again.
The Ten Commandments of 'Net' Profits are:
I. Thou shalt have a website.
II. Thou shalt give people a reason to visit your website.
III. Thou shalt print your website address on everything.
IV. Thou shalt participate in the online community.
V. Thou shalt network with other websites.
VI. Thou shalt always use your sig file to promote your website.
VII. Thou shalt answer your email within 24 hours and/or follow-up.
VIII. Thou shalt give people different options to buy.
IX. Thou shalt keep your website fresh and updated.
X. Thou shalt be a pro-active website owner and promote, promote,
promote.
Although I will miss her company and the gourmet cuisine for sure, I know
my client won't be calling me much anymore. And that's a good thing...
She'll be too busy!!!
Best regards,
